It may not be exactly the same but I've found chalkin volatility has some use as an indicator of trend.
When the graph is rising over the line and when it is above the line then there is good price action and signals are clearer. When it is descending over and is below the line, it's often very slow moving and more difficult.
Don't use it all the time. Just flick it on and off to look at.
