Having been trading for only three years I have not experienced trading conditions in the run-up to, during and after a US election. Can some of the traders who go back further provide some input as to how the markets behave?
For example, do the tend to start to range as it approaches and then break following the result, or do they get very volatile and spikey? It would be particularly interesting to know how they tend to function on election day itself.
I know we can look back at daily charts to see what actually happened (although more difficult intraday) but there's nothing like hearing people's actual feelings and experiences of trade action at the time.
My interest is in the main indices and forex, but if anybody wants to hear about other markets then feel free to post.
And if anyone has any interesting charts - particularly intraday - of past election periods then I'm sure we'd all be interested to see them.
Personally, I'm looking forward to it as I'm a short-term trader and hoping for some strong movement.
