Todays Economic News

Hi

today at 1330 UK time the initial claims figures were released - rated C+ for importance by briefing.com. At 1500 the help wanted index numbers were released - this news release does not have a briefing.com importance rating, and wasn't even mentioned on other forex calendars.

EURUSD did not react to the initial claims news release, but moved 53 pips in 4-minutes at 1500 - the same time as the help wanted index news release.

Why may this have happened today? Any ideas?

Thanks a lot

Nothing to do with the figures it was Bernbake (sp?). He was far more dovish than anticipated and implied rates were at,or very near, the peak.

Thanks JP1966.

Of the above forex calendars, i think only the forex factory one mentioned Ben Vernankes testification at 1500 UK time yesterday before the joint Economic Committee of Congress on the U.S. economic outlook, in Washington.

It just shows that its useful to print off a few different economic calendars so that you do not miss anything.

Has Ben S. Bernanke replaced Alan Greenspan as the Chairman and a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System?

How of ten does he testify - is this a weekly, monthly or quarterly etc. event?

Are there any other similar non news event regularly scheduled testifications that can have a similar effect on EURUSD?

Thanks a lot

From an FX point of view I have found forexfactory to be the best to highlight anything that will be relevant to the currency market, however large or small. They aren't great for releasing the figure but great for a heads up on what may be coming.

yep. streaming news covers all this kinda stuff. When people on the ECB, BofE or Fed speak, even if its on a low profile conference or something, if they say something unexpected, or something out of key with what the market interprets was previous policy then it can have a big and rapid impact.

Ransquawk, TradeTheNews or NewsStrike (currently free) all cover this kind of stuff. Invaluable information flow IMO.
