The Stockbrokers Exams

Hi Guys,

Is it true that it is necessary to get sponsored to do the necessary stockbroker exams and qualify as a stockbroker? I am looking to do it independently to add an extra dimension to my current investment company but have read in a couple of guides that actually you need to be sponsored to do it (although I think this may just be in the US?).
