Swiss market index...help!!

i am trying to do some research on the history of the SMI and finding out about some key dates in its relatively short history (since 1988 i believe) but because it is not one of the headline indices i cant find squat on it

here is yahoos 12 year chart on it and i was wondering if anyone can explain some of the blips in it (eg the dip in mid-98, etc) from any guys who have traded it over the years or just happens to know about the swiss economy...any help on this will go some way to saving my bacon so it would be much appreciated

I am now also beginning to analyze the SMI, although I did not go so far. I wonder if you are still interested in this topic.
