What are the opinions on Stratasearch- anyone using? Is it a valid tool? Seems to take away the tedious part of strategy development, but very few comments anywhere on it-
Anyone have ideas?
SS is very fast and has an excellent library of preprogrammed scans. To be able to run a custom scan, some knowledge of the SS programming language is needed and this is where you could have some difficulty.
It has a 30 day unrestricted evaluation, you can easily find out if it suits you.
Cheers, Rich!
I used it a long time ago in trial mode, got fed up of being unable to do the scans I wanted. If you have a rough idea of what you want, the same task can be done in Amibroker faster and with more flexibility since Amibroker can use VB too.
The language syntax in both is horrible, but at least AB has a huge archive of past solutions and a user support group to help noobs.
SS is defnitely a diamond in the rough, if only the programming was made easier the developer would have a goldmine on his hands.
Learning the language is'nt the problem, where do you learn it from?- but suspect I'd need to learn some language.

Maybe from studying the logic behind the existing indicators. Add to that the forum and email support - maybe it would be possible. There's certainly a regular poster on the forum from SS - but not to many others it seems.

Rich, perhaps you could take a look at amibroker. If you're looking for optimization it's the best. If you just want to combine a few indicators and see what happens SS may be faster.
IMO, the best way to go is just write your own software and it is'nt as complicated as people think. Nowadays, VB is being taught in schools.
Of course, it would'nt have the speed of SS or AB, but the flexibility is amazing, and all in less than 500kb.
