Hi everyone, new to this site and quite new to trading.

I wondered does anyone have much experience with stocksharts.com?

Is there a better scanning service for UK users? I mean, stockcharts can scan the LSE, but not specifically just the FTSE100 or 250. Is there a service that can do this?

Also, my results from the scanning do not seem to be correct.
I guess most of the serious trading people out there are using scanners, but I don't see much choice on the net. So any advice please?

Regards,
Dave

Hi Dave,
Welcome to T2W.

StockCharts are excellent at what they do, their limitations being that they are very U.S. centric and aimed primarily at swing traders through to investors. As a free educational resource, they're well worth adding to your favourites list though, as their senior staff writer is none other than John Murphy, author of what is widely regarded the bible of technical analysis: Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets.

If your focus is going to be on U.K. markets, then I'd recommend ShareScope as your first port of call. I've not used them for quite a few years but, when I did, I couldn't fault them. Certainly, their scanning facilities are very good. You might also want to check out ProRealTime - which I think offers some scanning capability, but it's unlikely to be as comprehensive as ShareScope's. As with most things, it boils down to what you need and what you're willing to pay.
Tim.

i use stockcharts for scanning UK, but you need to set up a watchlist. once thats done i find it absolutely fine. I can try and scan for what you are looking for and if I manage i'll show you what ive done

Thanks malaguti, I have been looking through the website and have just figured out how to create a chartlist. Creating one for FTSE250 would take some time! But I am willing to do it. But only if the scans are correct.

If you like, you could try scanning for [Elder Bar Red is True] as I have, and see if your results come up correctly. The last bar on the daily chart should be red, but some of my results are not??

The London Stock Exchange's website is great for that. You can look up any company on any index.

Thanks hhiusa, but I really mean a site that scans for parameters I am looking for on a daily chart.

hi Davey, yeah it took a few hours, but at least i have them now
as for the scan..I did create one and ran it on the FTSE100 and yes, even though i ran for blue, it came up with red ones. very annoying
you could try support, they are normally quick to respond. in the mean time i'll see if i can see what's wrong
