Spread trading UK shares

Any one tried spread trading ( not spreadbetting ) uk shares ? example : buy teso and sell sainsbury at the same time ... , or selling one of the miners and buying telecoms ... ( for intraday trading not long investment ) , anyone ? any advice ?
