Sorting files in WinXP1(home)

I seem to be getting some very odd sort sequence in XP

sorting files by name produces
158.jpg
159.jpg
0201.jpg
202.jpg
00601.jpg

with an alpha in the name I get the same sort of problem

b001.jpg
b04.jpg
b006.jpg
b06.jpg

is there some way of modifying this from within XP ?

does anyone else have the same problem ?

I must be missing something but they appear to be in correct numerical order?

files beginning with zero should be top of the list

its probably an ascii sort and not numerical
