PCI graphics card compatability with PCI Express interface

Hi

i'm buying a new PC, and it has PCI Express 1.1 interface.

To run my 2 monitors i want a dual head graphics card.

My existing PC has an ATI radeon 7000 dual head PCI graphics card. Ideally, to save money, i would wish to be able to transfer this GC into my new system.

However, I'm not sure if this is possible. I understand that some cards are compatable with PCI Express & PCI interfaces, but i'm guessing that these are PCIE cards that are backwards compatable. Whereas a PCI graphics card will not be forwards compatable with PCI interface :?:

Can anyone clarify this issue for me?

PCI Express: An Overview

It would seem unwise or impossible to fit a PCI graphics card in a PCIE system. Two seperate technologies using 2 different topologies.

Not a hope in hell, in short. There are some minor similarities, but the connectors are wildly different. Scan sell some fairly priced dual DVI PCI-E cards:

As already said, you can't put a PCI card in a PCI-E slot - they might be both called PCI but thats where any similarity ends. Just about all motherboards have PCI slots, so you can put your PCI card in a PCI slot. It should work for trading purposes, but for games or video or anything graphics intensive, it will be woefully slow.

Coincidentally, I was just about to put a new nvidia quadro fx 3450 up for sale. It's PCI-Express and dual dvi/vga.

The motherboard has 2 PCI slots, so i think I'll just install my old ATI Radeon 7000 PCI graphics card. As you say, it should be fine for trading, and i'm not a gamer anyway.
