Hull is widely considered as the first point of call for Derivatives, Fabozzi is there for Fixed Income - what is the equivalent for Equities??
While messing about with my Long-Short (paper) portfolio, I found myself looking into the fundamentals (ROCE, P/E ratios, EPS, etc...) and not really being able to interpret them in any valuable way - for instance, ceteris paribus, I would choose the stock with the bigger EPS over all - but that is about as far as my limited knowledge will get me.
So, anyone who trades / analyses equities, can you suggest a resource that would encompass the important things to know (a lá Hull or Fabozzi respectively). Of course personal preference is a factor, but I would like to know....
* what the different ratio's mean, and how they can be interpreted quantitavely AND qualitatively
* What should I be looking for in the three major financial statements?
* What should I consider if comapring two businesses in a similar sector?
.. this kind of thing. I want to know how to conduct a serious, if not necessarily advanced, fundamental analysis of a company (or in my case, two companies side by side).
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance
