Dear ALL,

I am one of those who were affected by the financial crisis in 2008 in terms of graduating. I finished an MSc in Financial Economics in 2008 right after completing my BA. I could not find a decent job given the situation in the UK, so I moved to my native Egypt where I found work. I was an analyst and assistant trader.

My last job in Cairo was really great, I was involved with international equity markets (GDRs/US) and was assisting a team of traders. Unfortunately the revolution in Egypt brought me back to the UK, as new regulations closed down my desk.

Apart from my MSc, I have no real qualifications. And I feel that my experiences in Egypt are not appreciated by employers in the UK. I was thinking of becoming an Investment Manager, Account Manager.....and so forth. I was thinking of doing an IMC qualification to make me a more attractive candidate. Could any one advise me on weather it is worth while? Any advice on other qualifications...or steps in general to get back onto the job market would be great!!!

Thanks for reading this far!!! (y)

Hi, having the IMC is a good step...alot of people in my office tend to do this first then after move onto CFA, MSCI AND CISI.The market at the moment is in a real bad spot, especially here in the City. Anything that helps you stand out from the crowd is a good thing. If you are wanting to manage money then the IMC would be beneficial. hope this helps.

cisi? thats not a qualification to my knowledge, its the chartered institute for securities and investment or am i missing something here?

any professional qualifications is good and would help your career prospects but do bear in mind that if your planning to work in a retail investment environment then there are major changes that needs to be taken account of such as the retail distribution review(RDR) that affects what exams you take.

the IMC is a good one for discretionary trading for example and if you have 3 years+ its a good pre-requisite for the CFA which is a difficult but very valued qualification.

what area do you want to work in? take a look at www.cisi.org to get further details.

hope it helps

CISI Diploma/ Certificates , and for RDR IMC+CFA Level 1 should get you there, or altenatively sit the PCIM (Private Client Investment Management, level 6 exam if I remember) exam.

Thank you both for your input.

I am looking into becoming an Account Manager/Investment Manager for an Asset Management firm, or go into Private Wealth Management. I think I would start as a Client Relationship Manager/Associate in order to move into those positions, not sure though. Trading seems to be hard to get into in the UK at the moment. I would like to hear your thoughts on weather the IMC+other certificates would be relevant.

Thanks again

i havent got the imc so cannot comment but i do believe that its usually required for wealth management jobs and some companies may support you whilst you study.

best thing to do would be to goto a job site and search for the role that you want to move into for their requirements and work back from there.

good luck.

Hi everyone,

I have recently completed the IMC exams and am now selling all the study materials you need in order to pass Unit 1 'The Investment Environment'. The books are published by BPP Learning Media and were purchased a couple of months ago (July 2011) directly from BPP as part of their classroom-based course.

The pack contains all the current BPP study material for IMC Unit 1 'The Investment Environment' (syllabus version 8). As of yesterday (1 September 2011) you'll need to know the new tax rates from the 2011 budget, which are available via the IMC website at https://secure.cfauk.org/assets/1207/IMC_Budget_update___1_September_2011.pdf

The pack includes:

• Study Text (comprehensive tome containing all course information)
• Practice & Revision Kit (lots of questions on each topic plus 4 mock exams)
• Course Slides (slides from the 2-day course, which are annotated with my notes)
• Course Handouts (more questions on each topic)
• Passcards (useful pocket-sized revision tool)
• Review Exercises (even more questions - didn't use this at all)

The course slides are the only piece from this set that has any writing in - all of the rest are in pristine condition!

Having recently studied for and taken the exams, I can confirm what many others have previously said about the importance of doing as many test questions as possible - many of the questions in the exam were pretty much the same, word-for-word, as the questions supplied by BPP.

I will accept £100 and am happy to meet in order to exchange. PM me if you're interested!

Many thanks,

F
