Hello,
I have a question about margin requirements in general, or preferably, for interactive brokers specifically.
I would like to get as close to my 50% margin requirement as possible without committing a violation but I cannot find the exact rules.
1. My first question is can I have a position of say 19,500 with a 10k account going into the close and not have to worry about getting a margin call in after hours trading (my stock trades after hours).
2.Also, do I have to worry about getting a margin call in the morning during the pre-market trading. I guess this question is equivalent to "what is the buying power during the premarket?" But it might not be equivalent for some weird reason, I don't know the rules.
3. My speculation is that I would need to keep above the 50% requirement during after hours trading but if I have say 19,900 on a 10k account at 8pm (close of after hours) then I would be fine until at least 4pm the next day since premarket 4x buying power would kick in by the next printed price for the stock
If anyone knows how this works please let me know.
Thanks
