Fair and accurate, actually, Tim. I deliberately didn't explain the background to my comment (after some thought about whether or not I should), because it would have been hugely disrespectful, in these circumstances, to hijack Rob's thread or risk making it about me, rather than about him.
Another time, maybe.
Or just tell Paul Gould to reply to his private messages, if you want it to look as if the forum's interested in member concerns and/or suggestions. Or just ask Steve, if he's no longer able to deal with members' well-intentioned inquiries, to pass them on himself to someone who is. Otherwise people will start whining in public, as Rob and I both are. (To be fair to Rob, he didn't actually "whine" at all: he just announced his departure, which was of course more than most people have bothered to do.)
if you - or anyone else - has suggestions as to how the site can be improved - I'm all ears!
It's a shame none of your colleagues apparently is, Tim.
And it's a shame they never have been in the past, when all those members left.
And it's a shame Rob feels as he does and nobody's ever been willing to do anything about it. But you and I both know that he's one among hundreds.
I've "had it up to here" with trying to be helpful. I'm just plain pissed off by this forum, and as you see I've even reached a point where I don't mind saying so publicly, since nobody takes any notice at all when I try to do that privately, however tactfully and politely I try.
I care passionately about this place
I used to, at one time. And I know that Rob did, too. It's time (actually it's way beyond time) for you - plural, not you
personally, Tim! - to start asking yourself why this thread has arisen in spite of the fact that both Rob and I used to care about this forum. That's about the forum, not about us.
