(I did a forum search for threads with "health" in them, and couldnt find an active thread)

Any health tips, such as for eating, exercise, etc, for day-traders?
How do you ensure your mind and body are in optimum condition for trading the markets?

I was going to start a general diet/lose weight thread.I am 6ft and i fluctuate between 11 stone to 11-8.
Trendie it all depends on the individual as to how you would advise.
If someone hates the gym i would suggest walking and maybe some push ups in the house.
As for diet i would suggest eating what you enjoy but in moderation.Cutting out favs is wrong in my book.Personally i play a lot of sports so i drink water as i play and eat a banana and nuts.I eat very little during the day and have my main meal at 5 and then supper at 8 which is usually 6 chocolate rice cakes. Its all about how many calories you take in at the end of the day and about feeling alert and not tired all the time.

I'm an Oldie and do a lot of day trading, although not all day. My routine is that I get up at 0520, wash, dress, three cups of Nescafé, listen to the BBC and am ready to go into the gym at 0700--which is the real reason for getting up so early. 70 minutes exercise, shower, shave, home and ready for London open at 0900. I would like Dax and CAC open but it is a bit tight for me to do that.

Four pieces of fruit for breakfast and plenty of Nescafé through the morning. I raid the fridge for lunch and have an orange, too. I, also walk most days for an hour and have a good supper at night, when my wife has a meal ready for four of us.

I want to repeat that I trade as a serious pastime, but not a living.

My advice to you is to eat carefully and take exercise seriously. No smoking or booze!

Saying some prayers, too, might help, although I doubt whether He is too interested in financial matters! :)

^I also love coffee.how many calories do you think you consume-i try and keep below 2000
also do you have a nap later as you are up very early.

The sedentary nature of this game is something I still find hard to deal with, I have a standing platform set up, not used all the time, but as & when I feel I need to get off my @rse. Sitting in one spot for hours is not my bag.

I clear the head with regular enough breaks, though I have a new time window which is much more suited to my own lifestyle, so the brain does't need to be as de-frazzed as it once did.

Headspace style meditation & exercise most days, but again, not all the time, but you kind of just know when you are clogging up !

No nap, but only because I don't think of it. but I do go to bed by 2200, I love Nescafé because it's quick.6/7 cups per day. Rarely, after lunch, except on weekends.

Weight is, always, a problem with me. I think that I manage 2000 calories-I'm about79 kilos--would prefer 75, but my wife says that I start to look scrawny around the neck and I am more like to catch colds.

No sugar, BTW, except what is naturally in the fruit.

Be careful not to spend money on stuff you won't use. I bought a cycling maxhine, once. It was given away. The gym is my best investment, it is less than two blocls away. You get to know all types. I know a judge, two doctors, a priest, a train driver a road engineer, a retired constructor, a teacher----all interesting people. We talk in the changing room, though. :) I am known as "El Eengleesh".

This is a good idea of a thread, unfortunately I think many will underestimate the importance of it.....

Myself: not sugar (unless my wife makes a tiramisu' once a month..), no coffee, not alcohol.

My diet is based on protein, veggie and fruit, some pasta and the basic daily vitamins.

At the gym 6 times a week, two days high impact and one day power yoga, the other 3 days a do a bit of weight but mostly I chat around with the girls...

At home every day I do 20 minutes of pilates in the morning and 20 minutes of meditation before my session which is in the afternoon, my meditation is nothing special, I lay down, I scan my body of sensations and let my feeling come to me, I let everything be....in brief I am centring.

Before my session soon after having drawn my TA on the charts I also do a bit imagery of trading, meaning I imagine what could happen during my day at my technicality.......

In my session I will focus in taking my centring with me initiated in my meditation, in this state my trading is effortless, yes emotions will still arise but they are there only at the back playing like a distant radio and they have very little influence in my decision making.

Personally I strongly believe I have to be fit to flow with the market and I prepare myself every day for it.

I think im a british version of you lol.im always in bed by 10pm lol,

If someone told me that I had to cut out booze and sugar from my diet - I'd jump off the nearest cliff - as life wouldn't be worth living! Exercise is a big problem for me, especially in the winter. The spring and summer are okay as I spend a fair amount of time in the garden and yomping along coast paths as I'm a lure angler.

I weigh 13stone which is 1.5 stone too much. The 5:2 diet works well, but I'd much prefer to lose weight through exercise than by counting calories.
Tim.

You would not, Tim, once you got used to it. I am very sweet toothed, as far as cake and chocs are concerned, but it is only at Christmas and birthdays that I eat it.

I, actually, dislike sugar added into tea or coffee, now. It's a different taste, that's all.

As far as getting to bed at 2200 is concerned. I can tell you that ---after getting up at 0520, as I do, at 83 and getting through the day fairly actively--- at that time of night, I'm bushed.:D

I used to love milk. Now, if it isn't skimmed, I don't like it. Except that, in my tea and coffee it's got to be the real thing,

Tim i agree with you m8.I love my sugar fix and had my chocolate rice cakes last night 6x 72 cals and some milk.as for booze no probs ,just make sure that you eat less when you have it.you will lose weight and enjoy all the foods you love if you keep your calories down.
eg-On average, beer contains about 180 calories per pint,
monday--------
breakfast-coffee with cream and sugar and once slice of buttered toast-350 cals
dinner-fruit and nuts.250 cals
tea-2 pints and a decent meal-meal has about 500 cals-total cals 900 aprox
daily intake equels 1500 cals-you can then have a futher 300 made up of what you want.so you can have everything in moderation.i would only drink maybe 3 4 times per week but as you said if you want to have a drink everday go for it but balance your calories around it.

If thatis what keeps your weight down, go for it!

Splitlink that was a recommendation for tim.i seldom drink and dont smoke.i like sugar but i limit it and dont add salt to food.i do like hot chocolate but i limit that aswell.
i graze on fruit and nuts during the day and have coffee & cream(no sugar).
a meal at tea time-500cals and my rice cakes for supper.
i usually go out for breakfast with the wife but its usually toast(loads of real butter) and cappuccino
i am going to eat better but my diet is pretty good.i like tennis and table tennis and play for clubs.i also enjoy dog walking so im pretty fit.

I don't have an issue with cutting alcohol and smoking - I don't drink or smoke to begin with, but I have a massive sweet tooth and that is a problem. I have a special love for any and all chocolate. I'm currently trying to phase out ordinary sugar from my diet and introduce more fruit (at least it's sweet, so it satisfies my craving) and honey.

How about eating high quality dark choc.
