Establish a "Trading By Price" forum under Methodologies: Technical Analysis

There seems to be quite a bit of renewed interest in trading by price, either alone or with one or more aids -- MAs or trendlines, for example -- which can help without getting into the bailiwicks of other threads such as those devoted to Fibonacci, indicators, etc. There are pre-reorganization threads that address trading by price and by price/volume, but they're scattered.

I suggest, therefore, that these threads be consolidated under an 'umbrella' forum under Methodologies: Technical Analysis ('Trading By Price'; is only a suggestion; all other suggestions are welcome). This should avoid unnecessary repetition and also provide 'one-stop shopping' for those who interested in the subject. Members may also benefit from being able to pop in next door to see what's going on in the other sub-forums such as Candlesticks rather than spend a great deal of time searching.

Seems to be a popular suggestion, so without further ado we'll add a new sub-forum to "Technical Analysis" called "Price & Volume" and start moving across all relavant threads.

To avoid confusion, DB has kindly agreed to rename his private forum to "Mapping the Territory".

Would a 'Price & Volume' forum be better placed under 'The Styles & Strategies' rather than 'Technical Analysis'?

That's a good question. We are having some doubts about the whole "Styles and Strategies" category anyway, as it happens, but would like to give things a chance to settle down before making yet more major changes. So, for the moment at least, P&V has become a sub-forum of TA.

The current thinking is that the S&S category is concerned with larger issues of time frame and systems while the Methodologies category zooms in for a closer look at the elements used, but the distinctions are, as ever, wooly and there is some unwelcome overlap between the two categories. But we're working on it!

Thanks for the feedback :)

I had thought about that myself before suggesting Meth/TA and came to the same conclusions as Frugi. As the forum develops, I suspect that the posts themselves will define their direction. For me, one of the central issues is clarity, and trying to combine everything that has to do with trading by price, including systems (i.e., "systems" as used in the Styles and Strategies megaforum), would result in a lot of confusion (and probably no small amount of bickering).

But, life will do what it will do. We'll see how it all unfolds.

Edit: I should also point out that trading by price is a boundary-crosser if there ever was one, including scalping ticks up to trading via monthly charts. Therefore, nearly all the forums in S&S would end up addressing it in one way or another.
