Email address wihout adverts?

Is it possible to have an email address for free without being bombarded with adverts etc. or you need to pay for it?

I hate targeted advertising (one of the email providers scans my emails and advertises accordingly).
What about invasion of privacy?

If you are looking at internet email then you could use Firefox as a browser with the Adbloc add-on which blocks adverts.
