ECN forex etc

Got a call off ODL/FXCM saying they were the bees knees. Spreads comparable to spread betting people but ECN clearing etc and they make money from commission/liquidity provision and not from trading against you + I'd get to use MT4 which I like for demo.

Whats the deal with these ECNs? Any better than the likes of IG/ETX etc?

Also what are the costs like?

Any help really appreciated. Thinking of going live again but need to make the right choice of broker. Also open to recommendation if they are from people with more than 1 post.

Hmm heard some pretty dodgy things about FXCM in the past.

What I can recommend are www.Oanda.com if you wanna go down the "spot" fx route (they have no account guarantee tho but they've been around a bit)

And of course if you want to play in a regulated market all of these these guys:

www.interactivebrokers.com (bit old style platform)

www.mirusfutures.com (Ninja with zenfire = great platform with lightning fast execution, but have other platforms available as well so you can choose)

www.ampfutures.com - ditto -

www.velocityfutures.com (Multiple platforms including Ninja, albeit not with Zenfire, but prolly doesn't make that big a difference)

Also with futures brokers you can buy US t-bills as collateral for margin meaning your funds are safe.

Yeh I'm only gonna have a grand max to fund the account and ODL let you trade 0.1s through MT4 as far as I'm aware.

Rules out a few of the above lol.

hmm...no offence to FXCM/ODL recent tie up but I doubt whether it's even NDD yet alone ECN, but I do rate fxcm...

However, there are true ECNs out there that'll glady take a grand off you to open an account. The difference? Well as we've all stated ad nauseum if you're swinging you might as well stay spread betting with IG who are boss in my humble. If you're playing offa short term TFs you can still make a living using IG but imo you need to use an ECN in order maximise profit..

Alos, I've seen a lot of bad words about FXCM on the net but a lot of hem are along the lines of "they widen the spread when news comes out" and other such ignorant stuff but I'm still a bit lukewarm on them tbh.
