DJ/FTSE synergy

Is there any guidance on which market conditions create a synergy of price movement or correlation of volatility between Dow Jones and FTSE?
As a newbie, I had always imagined London followed NY in many respects - but it has been clear from my early incursions that this is probably my ignorance showing through again.
All help gratefully received.

Unless you have already done so suprimpose the ftse, dow and s&p on the same chart, you can do this on yahoo.

As to what market conditions causes the ftse to follow the dow and s&p I don't think it makes much difference what the conditions are. The usa markets are the engine that drives the global economy and what is good for the usa is good for the rest of us ( generally and in economic terms!)
