Wondering; when the CME takes a 'break' for some time at the end of each day, say i'm long EC, and have a stop 10 ticks below when the exchange breaks, and then the spot rate plummets 500 pips....am i stuck? do ANY trades whatsoever pass through during those times? will the futures gap down when they open again?

It will gap down... When the exchange is closed, it's closed, I'm pretty sure.

Agreed. Continous trading is an advantage of spot over futures for that reason.
