Hi

I appreciate this is fairly low down on the list of priorities in learning the game but it seems a straightforward pin to knock down while I'm absorbing the more important stuff.

I'm using Tradefair at the moment for spreadbetting, but the charting is clunky and the whole interface is still under development. I tried MT4 demo and the whole experience is on a different level.

I see (from FXCM at least) you cant use MT4 to spread bet, which seems a shame.

From my immense experience (3 days) looking around, MT4 seems about the neatest interface, both out of the box and certainly in terms of configurability and customising.

Am I right that you just key in your login from the broker and MetaTrader autoconfigures to that account?

Is there a platform that has the shiney bits of MT4 (programability has my eyes fairly wide) but allows SBs?

You should try the charts inside the FX Trading Station on the FXCM platform for spread bet accounts. It also has the ability for programming custom indicators.

Yes, you just log in to whatever account with MT4 and it's ready to go.

Spread betting is not possible with MetaTrader although various companies keep saying they will bring it out.

My recommendation would be to abandon spread betting and open up an account with FXPro.com and get tighter spreads, faster fills and a more joyful and profitable experience altogether! In the unlikely event that you make so much money that tax is an issue, you'll make more than enough extra using FXPro to cover the difference...

I cite FXPro because they are very suitable for a beginner with small capital and they have very low margin requirements.

Hi 10K, did ODL have a go allowing the use of meta trader for SB?
