Hi All,

Great site!!! I want to backtest a few trading strategies and haven't a clue where or how to start. Any suggestions? Is there an automated site? or software? I am using a tecnical analysis strategy with candlesticks and moving averages and maybe chaikin money flow.

Does anyone use Stockcharts.com for tecnicals?

Thanks for any information,

Rachel

The software that back tests is expensive. best bet is to sit there and do it manually so you have the experience behind you.

Check out Prodigio from ThinkOrSwim. They have a powerful GUI for developing strategies, backtesting and turning them into trading robots if you like.

I'm not sure if the application is available unless you have a funded account, but I'd ask. I had an unfunded account that I paper traded for five months. I'm a software engineer and now that I know about Prodigio, I'd try it before rolling my own or trying to find another resource.

Personally I would always back-test manually for the experience (I couldn't do an automated one any way with how I trade).

I agree about paper back testing the first half dozen or so. There is nothing better to give you the emotional component of trading the strategy under test. But the other couple of hundred, I like to use automation.

Think or swim, I have a member in the US who uses that. I will try it out, many thanks.

BUT manual back testing will always be aprt of my weekly routine as it reinforces my set ups and gives me greater confidence when I get stop outs.
