Hi,

Do You know any long term spread strategies? Is Spread Betting good for long term investors?

Can the simplest strategy in the world work in Spread Betting? You buy the index (goods, whatever) which in your opinion will surelly go up in several months (like gold or silver) and sell when it will stop growing. Can I earn money this simple way? I'm sure I am far from the truth and there are surelly lots of disadvantages.. What shuld I look for if I want invest my money in long term?

Gambling, Speculation or Investing

Do You know any long term spread strategies?
Sure buy at harvest, sell half a year later during a drought or flood.
Spread Betting
Doesn’t betting sound like gambling?
good for long term investors?
Investors!! Hay, you have the wrong thing. Spread Betting is not the same thing as trading spreads. Trading spreads is speculation. Speculation is done by Speculators not investors.

Sounds like you need to reread Livermore. Sure the idea is to get in at the start of a bull market and hold it until the end.
Can I earn money this simple way?
Sure, but using stocks, to make a lot you will have to start with a lot.
What should I look for if I want invest my money in long term?
Sure anyone can grow a pile of money long term. The problem is peoples lives are short term.

Hello

I refer you to an answer I made before

seriously mate. There is no easy money to be made.
If you are prepared to
(i) Invest a lot of time studying the markets
(ii)Lose money you can afford to lose

Then if you are one of minority that does make money from trading then it's at least three
years before you turn a profit.

If this doesn't appeal then why not stick your money somewhere else and enjoy life.

IMHO, if you are interested in trend trading, read Trend Following by Covel. After rereading Livermore, which is liberally quoted in Covel's book.

If you're looking for simple long term buy & hold type strategies then I think you are better off owning the underlying outright. That way you are not subject to interest payments on your leveraged capital.
