Anyone been skiing in Poland?

Thinking about doing something different to the usual alps & booking a long ski weekend in Zakopane, Poland next year. Just wondered if anyone has been there, any accommodation recommendations, advice, tips etc greatly appreciated.
 
not personally, but I heard it gets *extremely* chilly there in the winter, much colder than the average alps temperatures, so make sure you have the proper clobber to wear and keep warm
 
No, been most places ,but not there.However, if you go,and if you spot any spare plumbers lying about could you throw a couple in your bag. You can tell them at a glance by the burn marks on their fingers.

Re-reading my post, I sound very motherly.

I meant it from experience as I DO have some decent snowgear, but I still got hypothermia and nearly frostbitten a couple years back when I got lost off piste in some rather unfavourable conditions.

At the time I felt like luke skywalker at the start in the empire strikes back on the frozen planet, except i didnt have a wierd monster to cut open and hide in its warm intestines :eek: :rolleyes:
 
i dont think you have to venture as far a field as poland to meet most of those girls .... just go to your local pub ... everytime you goto the bar pay with a new note.... and before long they'll come to you ;)
 
This thread is a little old now. I went there last year, very cheap - my hotel was £14 a night half board, roads in attrocious conditions, very friendly but not a skiers resort. Definitely need a car. Skiing somewhat limited but if you have a car there's are plenty of resorts to try and also a great 2-3 days worth of skiing over the border in Slovakia - although the language is a little difficult to understand. Picked a random entry off the menu in a restaurant (couldn't understand a word of it!) and was served turkey dinosaurs!

Most of the polish women I saw were bow-legged, slumped over carrying bags of shopping with a head-scarf and toothless grin.
 
Little off-topic.
Generally I recommend read about over 1000 years of beautiful and edifying polish history. You will see why Poland over 400 years ago was the biggest economy (side by side Russia and Turkey) and lost everything*.

For traders I recommend read book about "how polish Jews created contemporary Wall Street" or something like that, I dont remember english title.
For example Leo Melamed born in Poland in 1932 (CME chairman) created futures industry and IMM.


*Poland lost everything, because never colonised 3rd world and it was the biggest mistake of Poland (economic point of view), but very moral. 2nd mistake is democration, democration creates anarchy after years. This can be very edifying for USA ;)

Taxi is very cheap, it's 1,5 PLN for 1 kilometer (0.30 pounds) now. I am living in the lakes land (North-East pojezierze mazurskie - Wyszukiwarka Grafiki Google ), it's very turistic region especially when summer is comming and prices are very low.
