I work in Software / IT and have been thinking about trying to get into JP MOrgan etc. as a Linux support analyst / developer. Is this a good way of getting into the industry and could it possibily lead into becoming a trader in the future ???

Any helpful info and different views you acquire would be helpful to you in gereral if you have the time to get into it.

A non-business-facing role in an IB's Technology division will not really get you any closer to the trading floor to be honest. But if it were a business facing App Dev role, then sure, that would definitely help ...

If you personally don't believe trading profitably and consistently is possible (i refer you to one of your previous posts but can't be bothered to find it), why would you want to become a trader in an investment bank? To be honest you've got no chance of getting on an IB trading desk through that route.

Why don't you try and concentrate on developing the discipline and attitiude required to trade your own capital correctly, the result will still be the same even if it's someone else's money when you haven't got the necessary skills.

Why would you want to become a trader with your background? You could eschew the psychological conditioning required and put your analytical prowess into developing trading systems software, which in turn you can monetize.

Linux pretty much only used in servers. No chance at all of getting into trading.
