Hi B,

Interesting to see your post today, I’m a trainee trader at Amplify Trading (8months in) and whilst you can get all the logistics about the traineeship on their website I’d be glad to give you an insight of my experiences with the firm as well as the internal setup. I’d also like to reach out to some of the comments in the related post “Amplify Trading Prop Shop” as I feel that some of the negative posts are at best misguided and at worst untrue so apologies if I go off on a tangent!

The firm’s objective is one of trader development mainly for people who have aspired to a career in trading or want a career change (I fall under both categories). The co-founders Piers and Will are traders themselves and successful ones at that! You only have to see their setups each day to acknowledge their incredible intuition and feel for the markets at any given moment. Most importantly though is that their trading success is underscored by a tremendous baseline humility which makes them extremely accessible as mentors. The learning curve is very steep and in the open-ended environment that trading is, it is important to have the right mentorship especially when things don’t go your way and having a personal stake in you (I don’t just mean this in the monetary sense) they will provide you with the support to give you the best chance at success in trading.

There are other prop shops of a similar business model and while I don’t know the internal setups at these places, I do know that at the heart of Amplify Trading is a core group of personnel with the experience, successful track record and right intentions to help aspiring traders achieve their goals. Our in-house analyst has beaten the Goldman Sachs analysts at modelling the US jobless data 8 times out of the last 9! Whilst the firm is relatively new, we are gaining exposure with national news service such as the Guardian and the BBC while Piers is also a regular guest host on CNBC as a well-respected voice in the trading community (see links below).

I recommend you attend one of their workshops and if you have any questions B, I would be glad to answer them! Regards.

Dear Kamikaze (and I do hope your trading approach does not reflect the name!)

I'm still a bit dubious of what you say. How does your in-house analyst go about modelling the US jobless data?

Hi spread legger,
Our analyst extracts the components of recent ISM and other relevant data and factors it into his own bespoke model. We don’t take it too seriously and certainly do not trade off it as we respect the market consensus. Apologies if I have sounded like a hard sell, the message that I was trying to get across is simply that if you are somebody looking to get a foot into the trading door(floor), then Amplify can certainly provide you with the platform to achieve this.

I do realise there have been a lot of scepticism during their start-up period and objectively speaking, I would’ve been asking some of those questions myself, but a company has to start somewhere. I can vouch for the service that the guys at Amplify provide. Personally, I passed the 4 month course and whereas we started out trading 1 lot, my exposure has been increased to 4 contracts. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs and it has been through the mentorship from Piers and Will that I’ve been able to bounce back strongly from a bad run, there’ve certainly been quite a few! Don’t worry I am nothing like my alias suggests =) as you are probably aware that trading discipline is the most critical factor to longevity and success. If anything it serves to show my appreciation of the various trading sub-persona’s (egos) that can lead to a trader’s downfall (as highlighted by Martin Kemp on the trading psychology article).

I am still working towards an increase in exposure to 10 contracts which would thus secure a place on the trading floor in Canary Wharf. While there are concerns about the remoteness and isolation of the program (which can sometimes be tough to deal with imo) we do have a highly interactive trading chat room. I joined the program with no trading experience at all but with the enthusiasm and desire to succeed and so far It has been a challenging yet thoroughly enjoyable experience.

You are wasting your money, don't do it.

So which experiences did you make, pboyles ?

I don't really understand your question but I did the course several years ago and it was a waste of money. Its not a 'career program', its a training course.

What is there not to understand ? You say it's scam or in other words a waste of money, so I asked you for your experiences that could back up what you said...

You said 'which experiences did you make'. That doesn't make sense.

I didn't say it was a scam, I said it was a waste of money. My experience was that I did the course. That's about all the experience I need to come to my opinion.

Could you please elaborate a bit more on your one and single experience ? So far it sounds nothing more as hot steam coming out of your mouth...

OK just given them your money and find out for yourself. Make your own experience.

Hi,

Bit of an old post! For what it's worth these guys are incredible. They are incredible in the sense that they are basically industry leaders in the art of bull-****. They manage to convince Universities and other establishments that they are 'active traders', yet they rarely ever trade, and have never really done so at Amplify Trading. The entire set-up is a complete chirade. They are a company selling training courses using being a trading company as the tool to do so. I know people who have been involved with them. It's actually really sad. They have probably had around 1,000 trainees through teh door, with essentially next to zero left at the firm, on an ongoing basis. The one guy that has been there a while is no more than a glorified trainer, completely lying that he trades. Sure, he/they may stick on a dozen intraday punts every year and ultimately lose money, but they absolutely 100% do not trade. None of these guys have ever held a regulated position in their lives.

I can guarantee you they can offer no proof to state anything other than what you read here. A total scam. God, even the 10 minute slots one of them get's on CNBC is through a family member lol .... Quite incredible

well I don't know anything about this firm but I would be suspicious of any trading firms that do not have a few traders with quantitative higher degrees (MSc/PHDs) and track record on the FCA register of dealing in investments. harsh but true.

None of the trading education companies trade. It's common sense not to risk a penny and rake in training fees. Amplify is a great example of how, with strong PR and a bit of luck with connections, you can sell something of incredibly little substance.

That's all good though. It's business. All is fair in love and war. However, my main problem with any training firm positioning itself as a trading firm mainly targets graduates. That is what I find immoral. These are the guys who are going to get all excited and then go get their parents money to pay for courses. Fine if you have had a job prior to paying for a training course. That's the penalty you pay for being gullible. But for gods sakes don't do it with family money.

Read the thread about Traders: Millions by the minute. There are some decent and I mean sensible responses to that programme on T2W.
