Became interested in shares back in 1984. I had left School that year and BT had been privatised by Thatcher. I read a lot of books and my favourite book was by Ted Warren, published in 1966 "How to Make the Stock Market Make Money for You"
I Still didn't understand a great deal about PLC companies and the markets and finding the right share trading account was not so easy but Thatchers legacy of Privatisation had gripped me even though I was a leftist.
I found trading futures was the way to go and would receive charts through the post and then plot (with a pen) the price movements for commodities from the FT. I would then place my trades with my broker who was based in ireland.
Roll forward to 1995 when I purchased the minimum 200 share offering for Powergen and National Power. At about the same time a nice glossy A5 ring binder landed on my desk carrying the title "igindex" and after reading the introduction my first thoughts were "wow" this is what we have been waiting for. Roll forward to the present day and I'm still an 'ig' client. I initially traded CFD's but now tend to stick to 'spreadbetting' which is an unfortunate title because it conjures up images of someone with an out-of-control gambling habit, however if it gets around the capital gains tax problem then I can live with that.
I have as I said read many books and I like to think my trading system is a combination of all the best bits from all the books and other sources which I have read. I have found trading a great lesson in life and it really shapes you. It is one of the most powerfully rewarding endeavours you can undertake and will enrich you if not in pocket certainly as a human being.
