    Professional vs Non-professional status

Yes I decided to downgrade because my circumstances changed and it was a better arrangement for me. I sometimes wish I'd stayed with the pro account, but on balance I'm happier with the retail leverages overall.

    Professional vs Non-professional status

Like you, I also had a professional account which started quite a while before the ESMA new rules were introduced. Presumably you also started yours before the changes in August 2018. It was easy to set up. I don't remember what the criteria was, but I think it was just agreeing that I...

What are you listening to now?

I write and record music in my spare time; spent quite a few years in bands playing upbeat, loud stuff, so now writing much more mellow material. Here's my soundcloud link if anyone fancies a listen: https://on.soundcloud.com/DauaCkWxTfWg9pgu5. This is not monetised in anyway by the way...

    Fund moved without consent

I started spreadbetting with IG in 2003. They were great back then, easy to contact, talk to the someone on the trading floor. I was even invited to their offices to meet them. I've still got an account with them, but agree wholeheartedly that their service has gone downhill. I still run an...

Brett Bot - Consistent Profits from 52 Week Lows

Interesting read. We all have different approaches and I hope it works out for you. My observations: Obviously it's important to have some criteria for entering a trade / buying. Equally exit plans must also be made. However I wonder whether some of your plans are too inflexible...

    Fund moved without consent

How do you calculate your loss? You should only have to calculate your chargeable gain based on the value when the investment left the ISA to when you sell.

IG for a Stocks & Shares ISA?

This used to be the case but changed for the 2024/25 tax year. You can open as many as you want and mix cash / stocks and shares to your heart's content, as long as you don't subscribe more than £20,000 in total.

    Settling shares

Ah thanks. Didn't realise that. Must say it seems so much easier trading in the UK; there seem to be so many more rules and resturctions for US investors and traders

    Settling shares

Not all brokers create the restriction you mention (when you are a UK trader). I currently use IG and Trading212 for UK and US share trading , and both of them allow you to use unsettled funds to make new purchases. Maybe ask ii why they have that retriction when competors don't. I think US...

    any old timers out there!

Not sure I want to be called an old-timer, but I joined in 2003 (when I opened my first spreadbet account with IG) Not a big contributor to the site, as you can see, but still alive, still trading, head above water etc... Good luck with whatever you're up to.......................

the way binary can be profitable

This sounds a bit like the martingale system which gamblers use, (and is promoted in forex a fair bit) but its main problem is that the risk / reward ratio can become crazy, and at some point you will almost certainly lose a serious chunk of money. The other problem is that you will get to the...

    Trading212

@1invest. You should not get charged for non leveraged positions with any broker because you're not borrowing anything. Don't forget that brokers who agree that short leveraged positions will not be charged are not always as generous as they sound - when interest rates are high, you can often...

    Trading212

Actually I took the plunge this morning and opened an account. I was going to do it at the beginning of the financial year, but then saw your comment on 8th April, so held back and vacillated a bit longer. I'm not going to do any leveraged trading with them; I'm really happy with my existing...

Is there any IG Index client members who are (or was at the time) unable to access their IG online account ?

I normally access my account through Chrome on my computer with no problem. but I haven't been able to access my account on my ipad for months now presumably because the ios is out of date. So I can sympathise; it is frustrating when older systems are no longert compatible. I've been a client...
