Can't really say, actually depends on what comes up, when something goes too near the top, sell, when something else goes too near the bottom, buy. They come at any time, any day, any week any month, most days I focus my staring power at the currencies and chant: "Open sesame! Open sesame! Open sesame!"
I trade the dollar in the Futures market. It's been alittle thin this year as the dollar has rallied (bear market correction). Open interest picks up as fund managers move back in. I use a 10-day mov avg on Open Interest.
But any case, your'e right and thats why my interest is growing for Forex.
Thanks for the info on the dollar index gbanner. By futures market, do you mean futures market at the CME or on another exchange?
Do you notice many other active participants or just market makers? And do you mind if I ask how often you trade? I don't trade that product (yet) but might take a punt if it looks like there's some action over there.
Without giving away any secrets, could you share with us why you trade the dollar index instead of the more liquid products? Does it have something like nice trending properties?
There's a tiny chance I might be able to tighten up the spread if I see good hedging opportunities.
I haven't had much problems with liquidity trading the dollar index. By nature, I tend to trade the front months where most of the open interest is heavy. From Pivot to Pivot the swings are strong.
However, my interest in Forex is increasing mainly due to the leverage versus the Futures contracts. ( 200:1 vs. 15:1 in futures). Granted, some claim that your stops are better executed on FOREX with miniumal bid / ask spreads of 3 bips.
Hedge funds are getting into Forex as well. So I'm following the money. But, liquidity is not my main reason.
