Does anyone know if there is an industry standard for the Sectors / Industry groups for U.S. equities? Depending upon where one looks, the various constituents seem to vary in name and number. All I'm wanting to do is to take any stock from the S&P 500 and look at its Sector Index (or ETF proxy) and, more importantly, its Industry Group. I have 32 for the latter (listed below), but I'm not certain if it's comprehensive or accurate!

Automobiles & Components
Banks
Air Freight & Logistics
Airlines
Auto Components
Automobiles
Beverages
Biotechnology
Building Products
Capital Markets
Capital Goods
Commercial Services & Supplies
Consumer Durables & Apparel
Consumer Services
Diversified Financials
Energy
Food & Staples Retailing
Food Beverage & Tobacco
Health Care Equipment & Services
Household & Personal Products
Insurance
Materials
Media
Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology & Life Sciences
Real Estate
Retailing
Semiconductors & Semiconductor Equipment
Software & Services
Technology Hardware & Equipment
Telecommunication Services
Transportation
Utilities

Additionally, I don't have the epic/ticker codes to enable me to throw up a chart which, ideally, I want to be able to do in ShareScope. If anyone is able to point me in the right direction, I'd be most grateful.

Hello Timsk,

I used to have that very problem. What I've done is got Telechart 2005, (you can try it out free). On the sectors section, XLE, XLF, etc they have the stocks listed under each one. Copy them all out, and then you have the corresponding stock that represents each ETF.( I sort them in order of capitalization) The same ETF's are charted at stockcharts.com. Hope that helps......

Thanks one and all for your contributions: all helpful, positive and constructive. :) Why can't all threads be like this!
Cheers,
Tim.
