Just an idea I had as a quick reference thread, as to why members get banned, ( saves searching through thousands of posts for clues).

Could I ask why The Bramble got banned ?

hey... wouldn't we all like to know!...............................................................................................

Yes i'm sure we would .....that way we all know what not to do .....or else !

LOL..I thought he must be on holiday :)
but if he was banned ,why ?......I don't think I have ever seen him post in a way which was outrightly offensive , or at least no more so than some members who are still posting here ..so what was the 'offence' ?

wow! since when has brambie been banned then? just as i began thinking he was coming out with descent stuff as well!

...... hmmmm so who's going to put in all this activity on the boards if brambie aint gonna be posting no more?

Now this is a puzzler.....if you look at The Bramble's " member pic" it says Banned ....and yet his posts don't show the banned message......does anyone know what's going on ?

Bramble has been banned indefinitely. I would not usually feel any need to explain our actions: however Bramble is a long-standing member and I see that people may be confused by his exit, especially in light of his member title glitch.

Briefly, a moderator deleted one or two of his posts in the course of de-cluttering a serious discussion (nothing personal in it, just a regular, often unpopular duty that we perform) and Bramble responded with a surprisingly abusive PM which earned him a ban of a few days. He greeted this news by sending another really quite disgustingly abusive Email to the moderator who then decided on an indefinite ban. This may be hard to believe given his usual jocular style but I have seen the messages and do not see what else we could have done in the circumstances. Abusing the mods is simply not on. Yes, we can take it, of course, but the point is we shouldn't have to.

Why do members get banned? A good question. It is not an action we take lightly and in most cases warnings will be given first. The simple answer is that members are banned for repeated transgressions of our Site Guidelines. In some cases an instant ban is permissible, such as for spammers who spam multiple times from their first post. In my experience all bans have resulted from serial spam or abuse of other members. I am tempted to add "Destroying every serious thread with mindless bickering" but that would be a little draconian.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply frugi and I hope this thread can stay open as it may prove to be useful in explaining unexplained disappearances, so to speak !!

You're welcome. We're not the secret police and it is only fair that the reasons behind our actions are transparent, though it is unusual for a mod to explain a ban and I will not make a habit of it.

I am very, very sorry to hear Bramble has been banned (even though his profile doesn't show that). I always found him to be a friendly, level-headed person devoid of any agenda or ego. But then he was very critical of several heavyweight gurus on T2W, so I am not surprised to hear this at all.

You'll be missed Tony.

Pratbh,

His ban has absolutely nothing to do with any "criticism" he may have pointed in the direction of other members. I am also deeply sorry that this has happened, but in the event his actions were as inexcusable as they were unexpected. If you can find a single connection between his dismissal and the "heavyweight gurus on T2W" then I would be more than curious to hear it.

Frugi,
Yes, I was talking without any evidence, that was inappropriate.

Having said that I know for a fact (as you do as well) that Tony was very frustrated by what he saw as T2W's constant and unfair effort to shield certain members at the expense of others. This has been building up for some time.

Is there any way you could reconsider the ban, perhaps changing it to a temporary one? Just my suggestion: I am not speaking on Tony's behalf or anything.

regarding this quote mate - not sure I agree it would be too draconian...but I can give you guys the benefit of the doubt if you can at least try and do something about it.... yours truly has, with some success :p , and it certainly reduced a lot of unnecessary and incessant posting but maybe you guys can do something even minutely draconian, should it start happening... really, sometimes it just kills the whole thread....just all imho....

p.s. out if interest, and as it is on-topic at the moment, was old brambie given any warnings on this occasion? I only ask cos he certainly came across as generally sensible so perhaps he'd just been having a bad day? again, just my tuppence.... ( there ya go brambie old bean - u can't say i am totally against you now  )

Interesting, from the "Rules"

2. Unacceptable Content

2.1 The use of inappropriate or offensive language is not permitted in these forums.
2.2 Unacceptable language includes, but is not limited to, any language or content that is sexually oriented, sexually suggestive or abusive, pornographic, harassing, defamatory, libelous, vulgar, obscene, insulting, threatening, profane, hateful, or that contains racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable material of any kind.
2.3 Posting or referencing sexually explicit images or other offensive content.
2.4 Using asterisks or other symbols instead of the actual letters in an offensive word is still considered a violation if the vulgarity is discernible.

"Forums", does that technically include the Private Message system?
From the definition, it would seem not to, and is not the Private Message system advocated by "management" to resolve "personal" disputes?

We have had bad examples of the above listed transgressions on the "Public" forums, yet no "bans" seem to have been imposed, just deletions of said material.

The Bramble will be sorely missed.

If you are going to be a member of T2w, it would be a good idea to prepare yourself for the fact that some of your posts may be edited or deleted on occasion. Sometimes these actions will have nothing to do with you or your post in particular, but are just part of the housekeeping duties we have to do in order to keep the place from filling up with dirty laundry, 4 day old ooky dishes in the sink, advertising flyers and the 40 odd collected posts that got off on the argumentative tangent of who has got the worst smelling shoes. Now your statement about foot odour may have been brilliant , witty, and sly, but if we delete all the shoe tangent discussion, your lovely message will become history, along with all the others. There is no need to take it personally. If your message was a masterpiece and you are really feeling wounded, you can always open a new thread and make your message the start of a topic (as long as it falls within the T2W guidelines).

Do we manage to keep the place spotless at all times? No, the last time I looked there were dust bunnies under the sofa, and the bottom drawer of the refrigerator had something nasty oozing out of it, but we do our best every day to rake up the bulk of the clutter, bag it, - and set it out at the curb. And we want you to lift your feet up out of the way when we come to vacuum by your chair.....
JO

Well put JO.

TheBramble will NOT be returning. The reasons for his ban have been stated in full and they're quite clear.

This isn't the only site that Bramble has been banned from for his disruptive behaviour either, as those of you who are visitors to Tactical Trader will know.

There are also members who visit this site who have been banned from other sites outside of the UK for lesser things than Bramble has done - this I know for a fact. These kind of things might include disruptive posts, constant arguing, stirring up trouble - that kind of thing.

At the moment, we don't ban members for that.

For those of you who choose to persist with this silly debate, I'll leave the thread open - but you should know that the race is over, and you're flogging a dead horse.
