Some of you will hate me for posting this and some will want to know (who are new or finding it tough), either way I have never fallen back on anyone, asked for advice ( untill recent posts) or had someone to motive me on lows in this trading experience, so im sorry for asking but i`d love to know the percentage of people on this forum who actually makes a good living from trading because it HONESTLY feels like everyone is trying to find "what suits them best" or "you have to find out what type of trader you are" - "money management" - "risk management" - "create a system" - "being disciplined" -" cut your losses short" - "let your profits run"- yes.... there are hundreds....

My point is, i highly suspect or doubt that anyone on this forum is well and trully successful from trading, else they wouldnt be here or they simply enjoy the bumpy road to the unknown/selling a system/creating an illusion that there the next millionaire to themselves/making friends (which isnt a bad thing!)/ creating a community (of course a good thing)/promoting trading etc...

Im prepared for those of you who are going to bite my head off for some quick thoughtless remarks, but what you have to remember its not about how long ive been trading for, my track record (which is actually ok...) Its trying to actually identify the longevity of the whole trading for a living and verifying its worth (i.e. making MONEY)

looking forward to hearing your thoughts.... Dont take it too negatively!

The jump from profitabilty to full time trading is merely a question of SIZE

.... i dont mean any disrespect when i say this Ledgy but what on earth are you talking about.... How does that have any relevance to the topic of this thread...

You wanted to know about people here who are trading full time and making money, I believe that to be the wrong question me ol' fruit!
The right question is who here is consistantly profitable and what sort of percentage return do you make on your capital.
This site may well contain many profitable traders who are using sound methods to build their accounts. If you consistantly made 10% profit per month, that would be deemed to be a quality return, if you did that with a grand, could you live on it? If you did that with 50 grand, maybe?

However, there could also be many no-marks on this site who make Jack!

I would also suggest that it is when you stop asking these sorts of questions, and develop your trading you will be closer to consistant profitability.

No disrespeck mean't of course.

You do understand what I mean when I say size don't you?

Of course...

I don't think you are going to get an answer you are looking for. You can always give it a go. Make a comfortable living and tell us about it.

The lulz can be good at times. You can even pick up informed and interesting comment at times. If you spend time working at the PC, T2W is nice background like the radio. Why would I not be here because I'm profitable? [I don't sell anything and trading is my ATM]. :)

Depends on what a decent living is, my goal is to comfortably trade Dax @ 8 contracts

Each contract is €12.50 per point so 8 = €100 per point... i'm a veery looong way off, but i will achieve it

5% or less

Incorrect

I don't. But I'm a total beginner, this is even my first post. I am making more than I lose though and therefore assume it is perfectly possible to scale that up and make a decent living. Of course I understand that the psychology changes as the numbers get bigger and it may get harder but it seems perfectly achievable. And I'd like to think that if I do get really good at it I'll come on here and help others out but maybe some think that just having that mentality means I won't make it in the first place?
Hmmmm, bag of chips...

I like the way that a lot of people are "breaking even" or "making a small profit" and are hoping to build their way up to decent money. I wonder how many people actually get past this stage or are really just slowly losing?

By the way, I am making a small profit the last few months but I'm only using a small account and I hope to slowly work my way up to a decent living.

You are making a massive and generalist assumption with the above statement.
I agree with 0007 when he says that If you spend time working at the PC, T2W is nice background like the radio. Why would I not be here because I'm profitable? [I don't sell anything and trading is my business and career].

Let's hear it then. Are you making a comfortable living from this like 007 ?

It's significant that this thread asks the basic question:

"i`d love to know the percentage of people on this forum who actually makes a good living from trading" ........ "Its trying to actually identify the longevity of the whole trading for a living and verifying its worth (i.e. making MONEY)"

This seems to be a regular basic question to which there will in all likelihood be no verifiable answers because it's a bit like living in suburbia, where neighbours are all giving the appearance of trying to outdo each other and won't admit that perhaps they are bottom of the pile. On the other hand it's a common theme that people in real financial trouble are often willing to talk about it in the hope of common solace with fellow sufferers. (NB. I'm not suggesting this is the case with OP).

My point is: are we wasting our time asking a question that won't get answered? I'd like to know the stats as much as the next nosey person but I gave up that hope ages ago. The best evidence seems to be the brokerage stats that have been published and yet even that limited data can be interpreted in different ways.

Another possibility is that this line of enquiry is a way of justifying to oneself that "trading is not for me" [again, no ref to OP]. It makes me think (though I don't have substantiated evidence) that a large number of would be punters are just not cut out for trading - too many are attracted by the "easy riches" culture. Possibly, HoCo's [All I Know About Trading Options, I Learned in Flight School] aeronautical analogies are relevant as many people aren't cut out to be flyers yet they still have a go down at the local club.

I don't think it's the case either, of just opening and blowing a couple of small accounts and deciding we're therefore not traders since it would seem that all traders, successful and unsuccessful, do that (according to urban folklore!). I spent quite a time many years ago just bumbling along making no real progress. The light dawned for me with good quality advice from internet and book sources. All self-taught but I could sure have made much faster progress with a decent instructor.

My conclusion is therefore, if you can't crack it (ie make a decent amount of money or show significant improvement) after having all the right instruction and doing the practice then the right thing to do is bin the idea of being a trader. HoCo will tell you that's what happens in flight school - the main difference is that they tell you and not vice versa.

I reckon the main reason people ask these questions is that they want to assess their own chance of success at it. In line with the statistics being passed around, I reckon 99% of the people asking these questions will fail. The success rate for those who "made it" isn't that much higher.

I am an avid forums user for many things other than trading. Based on the very caged responses of people, I believe the vast majority of people are really not doing well. I often gain value from forums very quickly from my open and direct approach. But I have to say I gained little or none from trading so far. My conclusion is that there's not much to gain because there's not much for others to give. From experience, when a forum is bountiful, people are generous. It's not a question of charity.
