So hypothetically what would I need to have a proper bash at this trading lark?

Can any full timers, locals, institutional guys or whoever recommend the best and cheapest for the following?

1) Real time intra-day data provider with proper volume, order book etc
2)Trading platform or broker
3) News service or squawk or something
4) Business Angel/Loan Shark
5) Anything else I am missing.

What're you guyses monthly fixed costs and what other factors should cats be considering and ting?
 
there is one important factor you've missed out..my old east end and south London mates call it having the minerals..as in; "you sure you've got the minerals Son?"
 
Well that depends on whether minerals can be substituted for risk appetite in an overall stratagem or if it mean would I be willing to gamble in order to impress others.

Well just p1ssed a bit of money away on a two week holiday (which was great :D) but now realising I may have been able to get a proper subscription with that money. I'm a firm believer that you find the money to do the things you really want to do and with my continual crying poverty, the fact that I went on holiday instead of doing something trading related has left me with an adjusted perception in regards to how much I really want to trade.

Just want to get the hell away from forex for various reasons I will not go into and am considering the costs of cheapy cheap data providers (and bargain basement brokers) as an alternative to the jissm you get with an SB account.
 
Good quality FX data is almost impossible to find. eSignal data is appalling, to the extent that it should be disregarded.

If you want quality futures data, open an account with Interactive Brokers and get up to 3-4 months of 1 minute tick data for free, is that the sort of thing you're after?
 
That's possibly what I'm after, yes but as far as I'm aware you need 10k min to open an IB account though don't you?

Been looking at pro real time and that DipDash was saying something about ninjatrader data feed for something like $50pm but not sure what these exchange fees are about really. I have to pay the exchange for data AND the platform provider? Tar was mentioning free data too. Really I'm just trying to get an idea of what a bog standard but plausible set up would cost.
 
I've used ProRealTime, they're pretty good.

What's your trading methodology, is it something you've traded successfully in demo?
 
No I've only really traded forex but looking to get away from it. Good results when I concentrate and mixed to bad when I half heartedly go for it. I don't really have the inclination to develop a statistical approach which is what I believe you need to make intra day forex work.
Just want to see where proper data takes me really.
I was offered free data PRT yesterday but having some trouble getting it up and running.

Edit* PRT is working it's just that they only offer forex intra-day and some stocks I think. need to email them for a complete list.
 
IG white label PRT and call it "advanced charts" or some such. So you can get the data for free if you do a few trades a month.

Do you trade part time or looking to make it a full time pursuit?

I think Mirus Futures and Global Futures do a full on all the bells and whistles demo for commodities and indices for a month.
 
You could start out on the front month STIRs with no news required whatsoever. Free delayed squawk would be fine. Might I recommend June Euroswiss? No scheduled rate announcements till expiry, so it's perfect tick whoring environemnt (and a tick is worth £17! so even with some money grabbing retail rates of £3.50 a round trip or something evil like that you can do very well out of it)

Yet, it'll still do enough to get you some education on that sort of thing.
