Do you think F1 has become incredibly boring ?
The cars look the same.
The fastest start at the front so it is more or less a procession.
It is so safe and antiseptic my granny would love to have a go. Up to the 60s it was a man's sport, loud noise and smell of fuel.
Sadly the modern version is too sanitised.

The essence of racing fast cars should be the winning by macho blokes !!

Oh for the days before health and safety nit pickers got their claws on it.

Hey Pat

I'll get back onto this with some free time later, in the meantime

Do you think F1 has become incredibly boring ?
.

As a season no way - sure some boring races but the good ones more than made up for it.

List of fatal Formula One accidents - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Safety improvements were needed.
Its Aerodynamics mainly, along with decreased braking distances,
that have made it less entertaining.

They are trying to counter that with DRS.
Drag reduction system - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
BS really, its artificial, although it is something.
They really need a massive shakeup of aero rules.
No other aero parts other than front and rear wing (no little add ons).
Much smaller overall wing size as well.

The team with the best aerodynamicist has the best car.
(i.e. Adrian Newey Adrian Newey - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Loeb has done what Scumacher did for F1...wins everything.
Group B was the best, but dangerous same as 1950-1980 F1.

For 2013, f**k cars, Rossi is back on the Yamaha (y)

agree 100% L.V, Group B was definitely the best rallying years, Was glad to of experienced it in my youth.

Agree, shame they had to ban them, think crowd control was the real problem, not the power as much.
If all the cars had been engineered along the same lines as the quattro,
instead of unsafe tubular chassis with almost no crash protection, might still be around.

Is F1 boring? - only if you don't watch it.

The 2012 season featured -
* record 20 races
* 7 different winners in first 7 races
* pole sitter was beaten in 10 races out of 20
* driver championship not confirmed until last race
* first season with female team principal
* record 6 previous world champions competed
* leading driver after 14 rounds of 20 still beaten to title

Roll on the start of the new season!

Agree, the above is true, I just hope they improve DRS.
What I'd prefer to see instead of drag reduction for the chase car
is dirty air reduction for all cars.

If they can pull off DRS, they should be capable of that.
DRS is pretty good though in replicating normal drafting
by allowing the chase car to get closer on the straight
without losing downforce in the corner preceding the straight.

Also wish they could do something about tactical pit lane passes.
Only way I can see is to reduce race distance, and limit to one set of dry tyres.
Can't see that happening anytime soon though.
Current regs are a massive improvement over the Schumacher era has to be said.

So I’m just sitting through Qualiy for The Malaysian GP. The opening weekend was certainly worth taking about. I didn’t and I won’t at this point however some very interesting pointers can be taken. But in my book it’s just that ‘the opener’ , the first of a new series, and testing are not really worth picking apart too much.

So interesting Q1 which brings me nicely to a few of my headers, I will expand on these post race so this is more of a prelim.

The Stars (So Far)
1. Sutil. To be SO written off by the press and the F1 Blah Blah, he has shone so bright even the biggest detractor has no doubt softened their position. I love this; he comes out of the blocks and makes di Resta ( I blame the Team TM) look very second-class. As Hulkenberg did the same last year but hey what ‘s a champagne glass in the neck between sponsors.
2. Bianchi. Wow can this kid do no wrong. In fairness you have to feel for Luiz Razia. However F1 has a habit of moving on very quickly. Anyway for me he has been the revelation. No doubt this kid has been rated, well by me at least however Luca Cordero di Montezemolo will be whistling the happy tune very very loud.

To be continued

Also anyone who thinks F1 is 'Boring" watch the GP2 race and I'll see you at the next meeting......

They could have a pre GP warm up race of...........electric cars. Would only be about 60 miles. A bit quiet tho.
They are the future !!

Limit F1 cars to 1 tank of fuel and half the distance. So as to fit in some other races too and cut out the boring bits of procession around the track !!

Very much a tale of two Germans today.

One showed respect to his team and teammate. The other none to either. No prizes for guessing who is who:rolleyes: (Vettel & Rosberg)

It's such a shame Hamilton couldn't have gotton in at Red-bull and knocked that particular little Canary right off his perch.

Spanish GP up soon then. The two standouts from early season Sutil and Bianchi seem to have gone off the boil past couple of races. Anyway its tight at the top - Alonso or Raikkonen for the win. Stand out Qualy from Rosberg.
Merc and Redbull to fall back on Tire Deg.

Also worth noting the new GP3 car, some good racing.

Statistically a tall order, 21 of the last 22 F1 races at Catalunya won from
first row.
17 of them from pole, last none front row win was Schumacher from 3rd in 96:

2012 results back that up, Maldonado takes win from pole, Alonso 2nd from 2nd on grid.
So even DRS regs don't appear to throw a spanner in the stats.
Barring mechanical failure or qualy fuel load sand bagging, I go for Hamilton.
Now I've said that he'll probably go off at the first corner

In the last 22 races from Spain the winner has always started in 3rd or higher on the grid. So if that continues then the winner will be Rosberg, Hamilton or Vettel.

That said, the tyres are having a huge impact on this years results so Alonso could be a possible.
